The center has filed a petition with the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to “immigrate” 3,000 non-Jews from Ethiopia, in violation of the Law of Return. The implementation of the government’s decision regarding the immigration of those staying in the waiting camps in Ethiopia will establish a new and dangerous criterion for granting status in Israel. On the recommendation of the MZ management, TheJudicial Forum for the Land of Israel joined the petition, as did the Forum of Professors for Political and Economic Resilience and a few representatives of the Ethiopian community in Israel. The court requested a response from the state which is due towards the end of January 2022.
The association filed an administrative petition, under the Freedom of Information Act against the Population and Immigration Authority due to its refusal to disclose information to the public about the segmentation of immigration from Ethiopia.
The Population Authority is refraining from disclosing the relevant information, mainly due to recent developments regarding immigration from Ethiopia, the media exposures associated with it and the serious administrative flaws in the activities and decisions of the government regarding this issue. This petition is still pending and the IIPC is currently conducting written claims before the courts.
